Furniture Collection, Delivery and Disposal
One sofa or a whole room of furniture, collected from inside your home and taken where it needs to go: a new home, a charity, storage or a licensed site. Carried out by Kwikshift's crews across North Staffordshire.

One Item or a Houseful
House Clearance Staffordshire works in partnership with Kwikshift Removals & Storage. Kwikshift Removals Ltd does the collecting and delivering, with its own crews and vans.
This service is for when you don't need a full clearance or a full removal, just furniture moved from A to B. People use it to:
- get rid of an old sofa when the new one arrives;
- clear a spare bed, wardrobe or dining set;
- pass furniture on to a son, daughter or friend;
- bring home something bought second-hand;
- put furniture into storage while a room is decorated or a house is sold.
Where Your Furniture Goes
Kwikshift moves furniture to new homes or charities rather than landfill where possible. What happens depends on the item and its condition.
A new home
Delivered to you, a relative, a buyer, or wherever you tell us.
Reuse
Good, clean furniture that a charity or someone else can use is passed on where possible.
Licensed disposal
Broken, worn or unlabelled items go to licensed waste sites, never a lay-by.
Kwikshift Removals Ltd is an upper tier waste carrier, Environment Agency registration CBDU232762. GOV.UK says householders must check that a private waste collector is registered, and you can do that on the public register. You can also ask for a waste transfer note.
For more on this, read what happens to waste after a clearance.
Sofas, Armchairs and Mattresses: Check for the Label
Many people hope their old sofa can go to charity. Whether it can depends on one small thing: the fire safety label.
The Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988 cover upholstered furniture, including second-hand items sold in the UK. Trading Standards' Business Companion guide explains that used furniture must meet the same standards as new. So charity shops need to see the label before they can resell an item.
The British Heart Foundation's guidance is a good example. It says:
- every upholstered item needs a fire safety label firmly attached or sewn in;
- there must be no rips or tears showing the inner filling;
- mattresses and bed bases must be clean, with no stains, and labelled;
- furniture made before 1950 doesn't need a label.
Labels are usually under the seat cushions, underneath the frame, or sewn into a cushion cover. If you have cut the label off, the item can't usually be rehomed through a charity shop, but it can still be collected and disposed of properly.

Your council may offer a bulky waste collection, so it is worth checking first. But council crews usually won't come inside:
- Stoke-on-Trent City Council collects large items, which must be put outside by 7am on the day.
- Stafford Borough Council says its contractors can't collect from inside a property, garage, shed or back garden.
- Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, which covers Leek, Biddulph and Cheadle, says it won't enter your house or garage.
- Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council points residents to reuse apps and groups for furniture and white goods.
Check each council's website for current charges and what they accept. If you can't carry a heavy wardrobe down the stairs yourself, or you want it delivered rather than thrown away, that is where Kwikshift comes in.
Storage, and Bigger Jobs
Not ready to part with something? Kwikshift has secure, CCTV-monitored storage for short or long-term use. It suits furniture from a parent's house while the family decides, or a room's worth of things while building work is done.
If it turns out to be more than a few items, a full or part house clearance or a house removal may suit you better. Kwikshift aims to reply promptly during business hours, normally within 60 minutes.
