House Clearance in Leek
Leek is known as the Queen of the Moorlands. It sits on the River Churnet about 10 miles north-east of Stoke-on-Trent, and most of the town is more than 600 feet above sea level. It grew on silk and textiles, and many of the old mills have since been turned into flats and houses.
That history shapes the homes we are asked to clear. In town there are long rows of terraced houses, mill flats with shared stairs and lifts, and larger older houses. Outside town there are stone cottages, farmhouses and barns, often at the end of a lane. Each needs a different plan:
- Terraces: parking on the street can be tight, and stairs are often steep and narrow.
- Mill flats: shared entrances, lifts and corridors need protecting, and the building manager may need to know you are coming.
- Farmhouses and cottages: long tracks, gates and outbuildings full of years of storage.

Staffordshire Moorlands bulky collections
Leek and the villages on this page are in Staffordshire Moorlands. The district council is based in Leek and runs a paid bulky collection. The main points:
- for households only, not businesses;
- items must be out at your bin collection point from 7am;
- dates depend on space on the vehicle, and can be weeks away;
- it won't take things like reclining sofas, sofa beds, glass-topped furniture, doors or building waste.
See the council's bulky collection page for charges and booking.
Leek Recycling Centre
The household tip is Leek Recycling Centre on Fowlchurch Road, run by Staffordshire County Council.
Cars can go in without a permit. If you hire a van, use a pick-up or tow a trailer over 1.5 metres, you need a county van permit first, and visits are limited each year. Check the county council's website for opening times.
From a farm or a remote cottage, several trips to the tip can take days. A private clearance makes more sense when there is a whole house or a set of outbuildings to empty, when items are upstairs, or when there is a sale date to meet. Kwikshift is a registered waste carrier (CBDU232762), so you can ask for a waste transfer note.
Moorlands Villages We Cover
Large parts of the Staffordshire Moorlands lie in the Peak District National Park. Lanes can be narrow and steep, and weather on the higher ground can change quickly, so we agree the access plan with you before the day.
Endon
Endon is about four miles south-west of Leek, on the way to Stoke-on-Trent, and shares a parish with Stanley. The Caldon Canal passes the village, and Endon is known for keeping up the old custom of well dressing. Kwikshift's crews clear and move homes across Endon and Stanley, and the A53 makes the village easy to reach from either Leek or Stoke.
Cheddleton and Wetley Rocks
Cheddleton lies near Leek in the Churnet valley, with the Caldon Canal and the Churnet Valley Railway running through it. We cover the village and nearby Wetley Rocks.
Longnor and the high villages
Longnor sits on a limestone ridge between the River Manifold and the River Dove, about six miles south of Buxton. It is one of several villages inside the Peak District, along with Hulme End, Warslow and Ilam. Farmhouses here may be some way from a road.
Meerbrook and north of Leek
Meerbrook is about four miles north of Leek, beside Tittesworth Reservoir and close to the Roaches. We also cover Rushton Spencer, Horton and Longsdon.
Kwikshift's crews also work in Ipstones, Bradnop, Blackshaw Moor and Waterhouses, and the farms and hamlets in between.
Before You Book
A few things help us give you an accurate quote for a Leek or Moorlands job:
- photos of each room, the loft and any outbuildings;
- where a lorry or van can park, and how far it is to the front door;
- any gates, tracks, steps or tight stairs;
- what you want to keep, sell or give to family.

Nearby, we also cover Biddulph, Cheadle and Stoke-on-Trent.
