Clearances and Removals in Newcastle-under-Lyme
Newcastle-under-Lyme is an old market town. It got its first charter in 1173, and today it is the centre of a borough that stretches from town streets out to farm villages near the Shropshire and Cheshire borders. It sits right next to Stoke-on-Trent, but it has its own borough council and its own rules for rubbish.
House Clearance Staffordshire works in partnership with Kwikshift Removals & Storage. All the work is done by Kwikshift's crews and vans. In and around Newcastle we can help with:
- full and part house clearances;
- probate and bereavement clearances;
- office and commercial clearances;
- house and office removals, locally or anywhere in the UK;
- furniture collections and deliveries, and secure storage.
Kwikshift is an upper tier waste carrier (Environment Agency number CBDU232762) with £10 million public liability insurance. Waste goes to licensed sites, and you can ask for a waste transfer note.
Getting Rid of Large Items in Newcastle
Things work a little differently here than in Stoke. Two councils are involved:
- Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council empties your bins. At the time of writing, its website does not offer its own bulky waste collection. Instead it points people to reuse apps, local community groups and the tip. See the council's furniture and white goods page.
- Staffordshire County Council runs the Newcastle Recycling Centre on Leycett Lane, west of the town. You can take a car load any time it is open. Vans, pick-ups and trailers need a permit, which only allows a set number of visits a year. Check the county council's page for opening times and rules.
If you have one good sofa or a working fridge, giving it away through a reuse app is a great choice. A clearance makes more sense when:
- a whole house or flat needs emptying, including lofts, sheds and garages;
- you do not have a car or van, or you cannot do heavy lifting;
- you are an executor dealing with a home that is full of a lifetime's things;
- you are a landlord or a business and need it done properly, with paperwork.

The borough is a mix of busy suburbs and quiet villages. We cover all of it, including:
Town and suburbs
The town centre, Wolstanton, Bradwell, Basford, Chesterton, Knutton and Silverdale.
North-west villages
Audley, Bignall End, Talke and Apedale, with Alsager just over the border in Cheshire.
West and south-west
Keele, Madeley, Betley, Baldwin's Gate, Loggerheads and Ashley.
Audley
Audley is about four miles north-west of Newcastle, close to the Cheshire border. It sits just south of the A500 and a few minutes from the M6. The parish takes in Bignall End, Wood Lane, Miles Green, Halmer End and Alsagers Bank as well as Audley itself. Like much of this side of the borough, it has a coal mining past. Today the village has St James' Church, a volunteer-run theatre in a converted 1911 cinema, and its own sports clubs.
For a clearance, that means a real mix of homes and access. Some houses are on main roads, others on narrow lanes or up short drives. Tell us what the road outside is like and whether there are outbuildings, and the crew can plan the right vehicle.
Silverdale, Knutton and Apedale
West of the town, Silverdale had the last deep coal mine in North Staffordshire, which closed in 1998. The old pit land is now Silverdale Country Park, and nearby Apedale has a large community country park on old mining land too.
Madeley, Betley and the rural south-west
Madeley lies about five miles west of the town, between the M6 and the main railway line, with Betley to the north. Further south, Loggerheads and Ashley sit on the A53 towards Market Drayton, near the Shropshire border, and Baldwin's Gate is in Whitmore parish. Country lanes, long drives and farm buildings all affect how a job is planned, so photos of the approach really help.
Keele, Students and Rented Homes
Keele village is about three miles west of Newcastle and is home to Keele University. That brings a steady flow of moves at the start and end of each academic year.
- Students and families. Kwikshift can move a student's things home or to a new let, anywhere in the UK, with boxes and packing if needed.
- Landlords. When tenants leave things behind, Kwikshift can clear the house so it is ready to let again. You can ask for a waste transfer note for your records. Our end of tenancy guide explains the rules.
- Storage over the summer. Belongings can go into Kwikshift's secure, CCTV-monitored storage between lets.
The borough council's advice for students is to pass on unwanted items for reuse. We agree, and furniture that can be used again goes to new homes or charities where possible.
Removals and Probate Clearances
Removals. Kwikshift has over 15 years in removals. Whether you are moving within Newcastle, across to Stoke, or further afield, they offer packing, protective covers, and furniture taken apart and put back together. If you are clearing out before a move, they can do both jobs, so you only move what you are keeping.
Probate clearances. If you are an executor, you do not need to live nearby. Send photos, tell us what the family wants to keep, and arrange access. Papers, photos and anything that looks valuable can be put aside before the rest is cleared. Our probate clearance guide walks you through it.
