House Clearance in Stafford

Stafford is the county town of Staffordshire. It sits on the River Sow, about 15 miles south of Stoke-on-Trent, with junctions 13 and 14 of the M6 on either side of the town. That makes it easy for Kwikshift's crews and lorries to reach, whether the job is a flat near the town centre or a farmhouse out towards Eccleshall.

Most of the house clearances we are asked about in Stafford fall into a few groups:

  • a parent's home that needs clearing after a death, often for executors who live elsewhere;
  • a move into care or a smaller home, where some furniture goes with the person and the rest is cleared;
  • a rented house or flat to empty between tenants;
  • a loft, garage or spare room that has filled up over the years.

We cover the whole town, including Baswich, Beaconside, Coppenhall, Doxey, Highfields, Holmcroft, Rising Brook, Tillington, Walton-on-the-Hill, Weeping Cross and Wildwood, as well as the villages listed further down this page.

Council Collections, the Tip, or a Private Clearance?

You don't always need to pay for a clearance. Here is what the councils offer in Stafford, so you can decide.

Stafford Borough Council special collections

Stafford Borough Council collects large items such as sofas, beds, fridges and cookers. The main points:

  • up to three items per collection;
  • items must be at the front of the house or your normal bin point by 7am;
  • the crew won't collect from garages, sheds or back gardens;
  • some things are refused, such as building waste, fitted kitchen units and pianos.

For charges and booking, see the council's special collections page.

Stafford Recycling Centre

The household tip for the town is Stafford Recycling Centre on St Albans Road. It is run by Staffordshire County Council. If you live north of the town, Stone Recycling Centre at Stone Business Park may be closer.

Cars can go in without a permit. If you hire a van, use a pick-up or tow a trailer over 1.5 metres, you need a van and trailer permit first, and visits are limited each year. Check the county council's website for opening times.

When a private clearance makes more sense

The council service is good for one or two big items. A clearance company is usually the better choice when:

  • there is a whole house or flat to empty, not just a few items;
  • things are still upstairs, in the loft or in the garage, and nobody can carry them out;
  • someone needs to sort through first, keeping papers and keepsakes;
  • there is a date to meet, such as a house sale, a tenancy ending or a care home move;
  • you need paperwork showing the waste went to a licensed site.

Villages Around Stafford

Kwikshift's crews work across the villages around Stafford as well as the town. Village jobs often mean narrow lanes, long drives or no parking outside, so tell us about access when you ask for a quote.

Eccleshall

Eccleshall is a small town about seven miles north-west of Stafford on the A519. Its High Street is a conservation area with many old buildings, and the town grew up around Eccleshall Castle, once home to the Bishops of Lichfield. Older houses here can have narrow stairs, low beams and tight turns, so we plan the crew and the vehicle around the property. We clear and move homes in the town and in the farms and hamlets around it.

Penkridge, Wheaton Aston, Lapley and Acton Trussell

Penkridge sits about five miles south of Stafford on the River Penk. Wheaton Aston lies by the Shropshire Union Canal, in the same parish as Lapley. These villages and Acton Trussell are in South Staffordshire, not Stafford Borough. South Staffordshire Council runs its own bulky waste collection, listed on the county council's bulky waste page.

We also cover these villages and the countryside between them:

  • East of Stafford: Hixon, Little Haywood, Colwich, Weston, Stowe-by-Chartley, Hopton and Gayton.
  • South, towards Cannock Chase: Baswich, Berkswich and Brocton.
  • West: Doxey, Haughton, Gnosall, Bradley, Billington and Norbury.
  • North-west: Seighford and Standon.

Removals in Stafford

Kwikshift is a removals company first. They move homes and offices in Stafford, between Stafford and the villages, and to anywhere in the UK. They can pack for you, cover furniture, and take beds and wardrobes apart and put them back together at the other end.

If your sale and purchase dates don't line up, your things can go into Kwikshift's secure, CCTV-monitored storage until the new house is ready. Clearing and moving can also be done together: the crew takes what you are keeping to your new home and clears the rest.

Choosing a removal or clearance company in Stafford

Whoever you use, a few checks are worth doing first:

  • Waste carrier registration. Anyone taking waste away must be registered. You can check a number on the Environment Agency's public register. Kwikshift's is CBDU232762.
  • Insurance. Kwikshift holds £10 million public liability insurance.
  • A clear, written quote based on photos or a look at the property.
  • Reviews from real customers. Kwikshift is rated 4.2 out of 5 from 131 reviews on Trustpilot.

Our guide on how to choose a licensed house clearance company goes into more detail.

How it works

  1. Send the postcode, what needs doing, your preferred date and some photos through the quote form.
  2. Kwikshift replies with a free quote, normally within 60 minutes during business hours.
  3. On the day, the crew works through the property, keeping aside anything you have asked them to save.
  4. Waste goes to licensed sites. Ask for a waste transfer note if you need one for your records.
